I am drawn today to I John 3 and 4. I wrote about His amazing love few days ago but I think it is worth looking at a little more. I John 3:1“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.” As a child my mother worked at the bank as a teller. She served many people throughout the day. I was always so proud to go to the bank and see her smiling at all the people. My dad was a deacon in the church and when he would be called to bring a message in the absence of the pastor I was always so proud and that he was my dad or when we drove by "his" plant I would have thought he owned it. Were there moments you were proud to be the son or daughter of your parents? Some of us can say a resounding “yes” to that while others find it difficult to be proud of their parents. As I thought about this verse I had to think of my parents and if I was proud to be their daughter how much more proud that I can say that I am child of God. My parents were not perfect but pretty close to it but my Heavenly Father is perfect in all ways and He calls me "child"!
I did not always understand why my parents had certain rules but for the most part I obeyed them. I can’t say that I was a perfect child but I tried to be. As a parent though, I came to understand more clearly why they had the rules they had. It is funny how we become like our parents once we are parents. Looking at I John 3:2 we see that we will someday be like our Heavenly Father, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” We will never be equal to our Heavenly Father but we will be like Him. Jjust like we became like our parents when we step into the role of parenthood, we too will be like our Heavenly Father when we step into the Heavenly realms and behold His face. Everything else will seem minute in comparison to Him. Those things in this life that seemed so very important to us will be nothing when we stand at His feet.
Now look at I John 4:4 “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” Remember as you go about your day that this world is not your home. Remember as you seek Him that you are a child of His and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
