Matthew
10:26-31
New
International Version 1984 (NIV1984)
26 “So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing
concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27
What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your
ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill
the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy
both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny[a]? Yet not
one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t
be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2010:26-31&version=NIV1984)
Do you ever just not say anything at
all because you are afraid of what others will say? If so, you might want to remember these words
that Jesus gave to His disciples before sending them out with no money, no
extra clothes, and no definite destination.
He had warned them that people
would reject them, flog them (in their synagogues none the less), and they
would be arrested. Now He is telling
them, even with all of that, don’t be afraid of those men or what they can and
will do to you. Look closer, who should
they be more afraid of? “. . .the One
who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Although we are to fear Him, I find it very fascinating that Jesus tells
His disciples how much He cares for the sparrow and how one does not fall from
the sky except by His will, then tells them how much more He cares for
them. What is even more fascinating is
that is He cares for you and me just the same.
He created us and He knows every hair on our head. But, do you fear Him or do you fear what
others will think of you if you serve Him?
What is God telling you? Do you really listen to His words? Has He told you anything in the dark,
quietness of your life? Have you shared
it with others? I began this blog
because I was searching God’s word and decided to write down what I discovered
as I read it. It is one thing to pick up
the Bible and read it every day but it is another to really stop and listen to
God. As I write this blog the words come
and my fingers start typing. I truly believe
the words are coming from my Lord and Savior and I want to proclaim it on the
mountain top. I want others to hear His
words too and trust that as you read my blogs there may be something in the
words that my fingers type that would be the words that Jesus would want you to
hear today. I pray that these words would
be the words for you today. That my
experiences in life would be experiences that would help you know and
understand God in a deeper way. I enjoy
comments on my blog because I love to hear what God is teaching you or what He
has taught you in the past. Proclaim His
words on the mountain tops so that others can know the good news!
There are times in my life that I
wonder why things are happening the way they are. I have talked about some of those times in my
blogs in the past. I don’t see the full picture
that God sees and I begin to wonder why He would be having me go through certain
things. As I read this scripture I must
remember that everything that happens in my life happens for a reason and that
is to bring glory and honor to Christ our Lord.
Sometimes I don’t feel like I am worth more than the sparrows or even
equal to the sparrows but Jesus tells the disciples and me too that I am worth
more than any of the sparrows and that just as He watches over them He watches
over me. He is telling you the same
thing. No matter what our circumstances
are in life, God is in control. It may
seem like it can’t be from Him but as He told His disciples nothing will happen
unless it is His will. The only thing
that happens apart from His will is that of rejection of His will for us. He would rather all know Him, all love Him and
all obey Him but He has given us the free will to do that which we choose which
is either serve Him or not. One thing
does not change though, He cares for us and He knows every hair on our head.
What life circumstances are you facing
today? Trust in the Lord and seek Him
with all your heart so that you will have comfort in knowing that He cares for
you.
Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
