Too Many

Acts 17:24-28
New International Version (NIV)

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.  25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.  26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.  27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.  28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’  As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

How many people go to church to try to get close to God?  How many people cry out to God and say, “Where are you?”?  How many people think that they don’t need God, they can do it themselves?  The answer to these questions is a very simple one.  Too many!

Too many people are wandering on this earth thinking that they can please God by going to the house of God to worship Him, once a week.  Yet, our scripture today tells us that the God who made this universe does not live in temples made by human hands.  He doesn’t live in the church building, yet we tend to think that the church building is sacred because we built it for Him.

Too many people are out trying to please God by “serving Him”.  They want others to know just how much they do for God but forget about how much God has done for them.  It is important, yes, that we serve Him but He doesn’t “need” us rather He “wants” us to serve Him.  When we begin to think that if it wasn’t for us others would not know Him then we have missed the point of serving.  We must always point to Him when wonderful things happen while serving Him, never should we think it was because of what we did.  When we put it in perspective, we are merely an ant crawling on the ground compared to a mighty God who created everything including us!  Why do we sometimes begin to think we are so important?  We need to serve Him because of what He has done for us not because of what we can do for Him.

Why did God do all of these miraculous things?  He did it so that we would seek Him.  He did it so that when we looked into the starry sky at night, the mountainous landscape, or the ocean deep, we would see His majesty and we would desire to seek Him and know Him.  Wow, He is an awesome God!  He is The God who created us, we cannot do one thing without Him.  He has appointed us to the place we live, the time in history that we live, and yes, even if we think we are in control, we are not, He is the one in control.  On top of all of that He has given us a choice, we can recognize this control or we can reject it but ultimately He is the only One in control.

Everything that happens in this life is but for one reason and that reason is that we SEEK HIM!  Are you seeking Him today?  Are you recognizing that He is in control?  We don’t have to give things over to Him to control because it has never been taken from Him, rather we need to recognize who the control belongs to and Seek Him so that we can have comfort in life knowing that He is in control.

Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
