2 Peter 3:14-18
English Standard Version
(ESV)
14 Therefore, beloved,
since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or
blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience
of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you
according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his
letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them
that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own
destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved,
knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error
of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace
and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now
and to the day of eternity. Amen.
I love these final
words of Peter. They are so encouraging
to the believer. There are things in
this life and in our life to come that we do not understand. The very nature of God is beyond our
comprehension. The way to salvation is
through a faith and a belief in Jesus Christ it is not about understanding Him
and His ways. Understanding and
knowledge come as we grow in Him yet some things are left as a mystery far
beyond our human minds; that is called faith.
There are people
that scoff at this concept of salvation.
They believe if they do not understand it, that it cannot be true. They believe life is for the here and now and
when we are gone then life will be over.
They pour every ounce of their being in this belief and do not even want
to hear the truth because they do not understand it. These are the people that are building their
own destruction. Do not let these people
bring you down but rather let God guide your heart and mind.
We are able to
do this through the study of His Word and through prayer. I love the fact that no matter where I am I
can talk to God. It is better than
texting!!!! He knows my thoughts, so, if
I think a prayer to Him, He hears me!!!!!
Wow, I cannot imagine how that works but it does. A friend gave me a plaque to hang in my house
that reads: “Prayer, the world’s greatest wireless connection”. How true that is!!!! There are some things I just don’t understand
in life, like the television, the cell phone, navigation systems, even the
light bulb. I am glad there are people
who care enough to learn how these things work because I like to turn on the
switch and have light. The same, plus
much more, is true with our God. He
knows exactly how things work and I need to trust Him to fix if it is broken
because I cannot do it on my own.
As you seek Him
today, take Peter’s advice, “grow in the grace and knowledge of Him”.
Seeking Him with
all my heart,
Sheila
