Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
Just a few verses back Jesus had an encounter with the devil where Jesus was being tempted to turn stones into bread and Jesus quoted scripture proclaiming that what is more important than bread is the word that comes from the mouth of God. He lived out the words that He spoke in the beatitude that we are looking at today. So many times in this life we hunger and thirst consists of material things of this world but when we become hungry and thirst for the word of God our emptiness will be filled.
Do you ever become frustrated with the situations of life? I do. This past week has been one of those weeks. I have questions regarding employment and other issues that try to rob me of my joy in knowing a Lord and Savior who has my best interest in mind. When I have this attitude I have to think about what is most important in life and that is always being hungry and thirsty for the Lord. So many times in life people reach for things that are artificial to try to be filled but in actuality it is the words of the Lord that can fill us to completeness.
I have to think of the woman at the well in John 4 where Jesus took the time to visit with her and she was willing to listen to Him. He promised her living water that she would never thirst again and she not only accepted it but rushed out to bring others to Him. I call this thirsting for righteousness. My question today is: Are you that thirsty and hungry for righteousness? If so, how are you seeking it? I trust that you will seek Him with all your heart and be satisfied.
Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
