Living in the Light

Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  (15)Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  (16)In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

How do we live as children of light in order that our light might shine?  Let’s take a look at Ephesians 4 beginning with verse 25 we read the following instructions as to what it looks like to let our light shine.
1.        Put off falsehood and speak truthfully.  Have you ever had a conversation with someone that would say one thing about someone behind their back and would be totally opposite to their face.  My mother always taught me that these are not the kind of friends to have.  If they are treating others that way, what are they saying about you?  (25)
2.       The church should act as “one” just as our body acts as one. (25)
3.       Don’t sin when you are angry but reconcile before the sun sets. (26)
4.       Don’t let the devil have control. (27)
5.       Don’t steal but rather make better use of your hands through hard work and then share your with others. (28)
6.       Speak kindly to others and build them up make your words worth listening to. (29)
7.       I am going to put the last part together because I do not see how it can be separated.
Ephesians 4:30 – 32
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (31) Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  (32) Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
If we go back to the beginning verses, we will see that if we let our life shine in this manner then our good deeds will not go unnoticed and our Heavenly Father will be praised.

As you walk in the light be sure to seek Him with all your hearts.

Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
