What Could Be Better?

Psalm 3
English Standard Version (ESV)

Save Me, O My God
A Psalm of David, (A)when he fled from Absalom his son.
Lord(B)how many are my foes!
    Many are (C)rising against me;
many are saying of my soul,
    (D)there is no salvation for him in God. Selah[a]
But you, O Lord, are (E)a shield (F)about me,
    my glory, and (G)the lifter of my head.
(H)cried aloud to the Lord,
    and he (I)answered me from his (J)holy hill. Selah
(K)lay down and slept;
    I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
(L)will not be afraid of many thousands of people
    who have (M)set themselves against me all around.
7 (N)Arise, O Lord!
    Save me, O my God!
For you (O)strike all my enemies on the cheek;
    you (P)break the teeth of the wicked.
8 (Q)Salvation belongs to the Lord;
    your blessing be on your people! Selah

I get pretty fed up with people sometimes and I am sure they get fed up with me as well.  I have had people let me down, disappoint me, and turn on me.  It is very difficult when you think that someone is your friend, you think that they are supporting you, and then you find out they were backstabbing you all along.  When I have found out the truth about people that I called, “friend” it has hurt tremendously and my response has not always the most Godly of responses.

As I look at this Psalm it is hard for me to imagine being in the position of David and having to deal with a son that is hungry for the throne.  A son that you have watched grow up is now after you and your kingdom.  What a sad situation David finds himself in.  This is much worse than a friend backstabbing but wait there is more, his friends are siding with his son!  My first thought is, “What could be worse?” but David’s thoughts turn to the Lord and his responses is more like, “What could be better?”  Nothing is better than knowing that your salvation is in the Lord.  To know that God is in control is the only way to find peace in a chaotic world.

Hebrews 13:6 English Standard Version (ESV)

So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

What can man do to me?  He can try to break my confidence, he can surely break my heart, but there is One that is able to heal and He will do so if only I ask.  As you seek Him today hold on to the truth that He is the only one that matters.  He is the only One you will answer to.  Make sure that you are not the one doing the backstabbing, the one that turns on your friends and family.  Make sure that in all that you do, you bring glory and honor to the Lord and as the Psalmist says, “May the Lord bless His people.”

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
