Psalm 53
English Standard Version (ESV)
53 (B)The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.
2 God
looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,[b]
who seek after God.
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,[b]
who seek after God.
3 They
have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
4 Have
those who work evil no knowledge,
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon God?
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon God?
5 There
they are, in great terror,
(C)where there is no terror!
For God (D)scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.
(C)where there is no terror!
For God (D)scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.
6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
When God restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
I
am sure you have heard of people saying, “Why should I be a Christin, they are
no better than I am?” or maybe someone has said that to you! In some ways they are very right but in others
they could not be any further from the truth.
People are people and as the scripture say, “All have sinned and fallen
short of the Glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
There is no doubt that sin has entrapped our lives in such a way that
none of us are perfect.
However,
there is a stark contrast between the one who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ
and the one who says there is no God.
The scriptures here make it very clear that the one who denies there is
a God is a FOOL. Yes, a FOOL. This person may try to do good but they are
in essence an enemy of God. While the
Christians will be rejoicing in Heaven, terror will be upon the one who says, “There
is no God.” Terror will come to the one
that persecutes or mocks the Christians.
Today
maybe it appears there is no difference, which is sad because Christians should
be living a life that exemplifies our Father in Heaven. Sometimes those who do not believe look at
ways to trip up a Christian or draw or expound on one fault of a Christian just
to make their point. Today they may
think they are winning the race but they don’t realize they are running the
wrong direction.
Don’t
be a fool but rather seek Him with all your heart in order that you can
exemplify the Father in your actions.
Seeking
Him with all my heart,
Sheila
