His Strength

Psalm 21:8-13

New International Version (NIV)

Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies;
    your right hand will seize your foes.
When you appear for battle,
    you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and his fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
    their posterity from mankind.
11 Though they plot evil against you
    and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs
    when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13 Be exalted in your strength, Lord;
    we will sing and praise your might.

I like to the look at the stats on my blog and see how many people read the blogs.  The other day when I was looking at the statistics I realized the number of people who read the blogs was higher on those in which God’s characteristics were favorable, such as “Our Deliverer” or “To Hear God’s Voice” but when there was one such as “Our Judge” not very any people read it.  Now it might have been that most had already read that one but to me it was an indication that we don’t really want to think about being judged by God.  Although we know that He has the final say we would rather see Him as our Friend or our Deliverer.

Today we look at a side of God that some people think doesn’t exist or try to not think about.  People want to pretend that they are in charge, that they can just act good and God will be good to them. And those are the people who were raised in a church, forced to go to church, but never committed their lives to the Lord.  They don’t see themselves as enemies of God and they don’t see Him as the One that will pass down a verdict on their lives.  Yet, those are the ones who are the enemies of God.  Just like the Pharisees who made up their rules and regulations to make them holy.  Rather, they were unholy because they relied on themselves rather than on God.  They chose to make up the rules rather than follow those that God established.  They chose to kill to Jesus and get rid of their competition.  Little did they know that He would rise again.

Look closely at how God will judge those who are His enemies.  Look closely at how God will punish those who are His enemies or those who plot evil against His chosen ones.  Look even closer at the last verse, “Be exalted in your strength, LORD; we will sing and praise you might.”  Yes, we need to recognize His might now and forever more.  It is through Him that we have strength.  His strength will carry us through the darkest time.  We can choose to sing praise for that strength or ignore His strength and pay the consequences at judgment day.

As you seek Him may you find that you are not just looking for someone who will bring you favor but One who it to be feared, and may you find yourself being faithful to Him.

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
