Call Upon Him

Acts 2:14-21
New International Version (NIV)

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19
I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20
The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21
And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

How often do we pray for miracles and suggest that the Lord’s name will be glorified through the miracle?  When it is answered, some people see the miracle while others still doubt.  I myself am a product of such a miracle.  I recall many years ago when I was having physical problems that our pastor, at the time, had a sense from God that I was going to be healed of my physical ailments.  He had such a belief that he came looking for us to tell us we had no need to go to a specialist in a city four hours away.  He did not find us and we saw the specialist who had no real answers.   Several years later, we realized how this pastor was right, God, healed me of the awful illness.  Was God glorified?  I don’t think I thank Him enough and I know there are some that might be skeptical of this.  They may believe it was one of the treatments that healed me or that it was just a fluke.  I still go to a specialist once a year who marvels at the fact that I have no physical symptoms but have evidence of the illness.  I marvel at the amazing God who chose to heal me, and even more, to save me.

Today as we read this passage we see that some are amazed and others are skeptical.  We try to explain the miracles away to science or false reading and in our Bible reading, that they were drunk.  Why is it that we cannot just accept that miracle as a miracle and keep to the promise that God will be glorified?  Possibly because we are a mankind and we cannot seem to look past the end of our noses.

God continually works in this world and He has shown us many signs and wonders of His existence.  You need only go to Colorado to see such beauty.  You only need to feel one earthquake to know that God can move mountains if He so chooses.  Yet, there is only one precursor that sets us apart from one another, some seeing and others rejecting, we need to call upon the Lord.  When we recognize that He is the One that gave us Jesus to be the miracle for ALL not just the Jews, the One to save us from the destruction of this world.

As you seek Him today, remember, that He is the creator of this universe and the great miracle of all is that He cares enough for us that He provided us a way to be saved from separation from Him.  Call upon Him and be saved!  Proclaim His greatness to everyone!

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
