Psalm 147 English Standard Version (ESV)
147
Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
for it is pleasant,[a] and a song of praise is
fitting.
2
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts
of Israel.
3
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their
wounds.
4
He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them
their names.
5
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is
beyond measure.
6
The Lord lifts up the humble;[b]
he casts the wicked to
the ground.
7
Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
make melody to our God
on the lyre!
8
He covers the heavens with clouds;
he prepares rain for the
earth;
he makes grass grow on the hills.
9
He gives to the beasts their food,
and to the young ravens
that cry.
10
His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the
legs of a man,
11
but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his
steadfast love.
12
Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13
For he strengthens the bars of your gates;
he blesses your children
within you.
14
He makes peace in your borders;
he fills you with the
finest of the wheat.
15
He sends out his command to the earth;
his word runs swiftly.
16
He gives snow like wool;
he scatters frost like
ashes.
17
He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs;
who can stand before his
cold?
18
He sends out his word, and melts them;
he makes his wind blow
and the waters flow.
19
He declares his word to Jacob,
his statutes and rules[c] to Israel.
20
He has not
dealt thus with any other nation;
they do not know his
rules.[d]
Praise the Lord!
This
scripture once again reminds us of how much our God is in control. If it weren’t for Him we would not have the
stars, clouds, rain, sleet or hail, snow, grass, food, animals, and even our
own existence. Yet, sometimes we want to
tell God how things should be done.
When
I get upset or down in the dumps I like to turn to music. God gave us
music for a reason and it was to praise Him. When we sing or play songs of praise to Him we
become more in tune to His glory and we realize that it is only through Him
that we will survive the moment. When we
dwell upon His blessings and give thanks, somehow the thing that we are going
through seems a bit smaller.
God
does bless us in so many wonderful ways.
He protects us and cares for us.
I have a new granddaughter on the way and I pray God’s blessings upon
her. As I read this Psalm today I was
blessed knowing that He does bless our children who are within us. Even before they are born, He is
blessing them. I have prayed for that and now have scripture
that tells me this is true.
It
is only through our God that we will ever find peace on all of the world’s
borders. Today it seems that so many
have left God out of their lives and their country that there is no peace. There is a sign in Kansas along I-70 painted
on the roof of a building that says, No God, No Peace – Know God Know
Peace. This is so fitting and so
true. If we claim there is no God we
will never have peace but when we know Him through Jesus Christ, then, we know
what peace is.
As
you seek Him may you know Him and know of the steadfast love that He has for
you. A love that blesses our unborn
children, who cares for us with water, food, and the beauty of His creation
which comes from a God, One True God.
Seeking
Him with all my heart,
Sheila
