The Power of His Word

Psalm 149 English Standard Version (ESV)
149
Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
    his praise in the assembly of the godly!
Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
Let them praise his name with dancing,
    making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
    he adorns the humble with salvation.
Let the godly exult in glory;
    let them sing for joy on their beds.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats  and two-edged swords in their hands,
to execute vengeance on the nations
    and punishments on the peoples,
to bind their kings with chains
    and their nobles with fetters of iron,
to execute on them the judgment written!
    This is honor for all his godly ones.
Praise the Lord!

When should we praise the Lord?  Always, even in our beds!  No matter where we are or what we are doing we should be singing praise to Him.  As we exult Him, we are lifted up as well.

What should we have in our hands?  A bible because it is like a weapon to the  enemy. Hebrew 4: 12 describes it :
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Although it speaks of carrying the Word, in Psalms 149, we must do more than just carry our Bible around and swing it at people.  We need to know what the Word says.  We need to be in close communion with God through His Word.

I have written of my friend in prison, she is on my mind often.  She has given testimony of how the Word has protected her and brought women into her life who would have just passed by if they had not seen her with her Bible.  It has protected her and given her joy in a dark place.

We must not only carry the Word, know the Word, but we must also live out the Word.  We must draw our strength from Him and Him alone. The action of a proclaimed Christian speaks volumes about their use of the sword.  I have known people in the workplace who proclaim to be Christians and no one likes them because they are mean and indifferent.  What does that tell the non-Christian about the Christian faith?  It isn’t a good message.

As you seek Him today may you take His word, place it in your heart, discern His will, and act as one who has the redeeming blood of Jesus poured upon them.

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
