Our Rescuer

Psalm 14

14 (A)The (B)fool says in his heart, (C)“There is no God.”
They are (D)corrupt, they do abominable deeds,
(E)there is none who does good.
The Lord (F)looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,[a]
    who (G)seek after God.
They have all turned aside; together they have become (H)corrupt;
there is none who does good,
    not even one.
Have they no (I)knowledge, all the evildoers
who (J)eat up my people as they eat bread
and (K)do not call upon the Lord?
There they are in great terror,
for God is with (L)the generation of the righteous.
You would shame the plans of the poor,
but[b] the Lord is his (M)refuge.
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord (N)restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

The fool, one who says there is no God.  Did you notice that it doesn’t say the one who thinks there is no God?  There are many who claim that God doesn’t exist but in their hearts, in their minds, they know there is One who is over them.  They are rebellious people who choose to ignore God rather than seek Him.

As I read this I had to think of Noah and the flood.  Noah was the only righteous man on the earth but God delivered him.  Then there was Lot, the only righteous man in the city and God rescued Him.  If God did that for the men of Israel he has and will do it for me.  He rescued me once by sending His Son so that I, a Gentile, could be one of His.  He will rescue me again when He takes me home to be with Him.

Don’t be a fool, proclaim there is a God.  Seek Him and find Him, don’t run from Him but to Him.  Remember that it not a question of “if” He will rescue you but “when” He will rescue you.

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
