He Surrounds Us!

Psalm 125
English Standard Version (ESV)

A Song of Ascents.
125
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time forth and forevermore.
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out
    their hands to do wrong.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts!
But those who turn aside to their crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with evildoers!
 Peace be upon Israel!

This is such a beautiful passage.  Just to think that I, a mere human being, a speck of dust, cannot be moved if I only trust in the Lord. To think, that He surrounds His people, including me, like the mountains that surround Jerusalem, is incomprehensible.  I have no excuses, except for the lack of trust, when life becomes rough and peace is far from me.  How do we teach this to our children and our children’s children?   Faith and trust go hand and hand.  If we cannot put our trust in the unseen then we cannot have faith.

Often times we find ourselves in difficult situations where life seems unfair and unjust.  We start to wonder if God is truly surrounding us or if we are all alone.  We begin to question if God really even cares about us.  This scripture negates those unhealthy and unrealistic thoughts all the way around.

Furthermore the scripture tells us that we are not immune from doing wrong but need to be led by those who do what is right in the sight of God.  Often times in the Old Testament scriptures we see those words, “they did wrong in the sight of God” or “they did right in their own eyes”.  Every time we see those words we know that trouble is about to brew or is brewing or just brewed.  It is so important that we have leaders that do what is right in the eyes of God because if we don’t we may stumble and fall.  This isn’t just for the land but for the church as well.  Maybe you are a leader and maybe you are a follower.  I hope if you are a leader, you are doing what is right in the sight of God.  If you are a follower, I hope you are following after someone who is leading you to Christ.  Most of all, in both cases, I hope that you are trusting in God, the only One who can keep you strong in times of trouble.  The One who surrounds you and protects you if you will just call upon Him and put your trust in Him.

May God’s loving arms surround you and give you peace in whatever befalls you.  May you trust in Him, place your hope in Him, and seek Him with all your heart.

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
