Psalm 124
English
Standard Version (ESV)
A Song of Ascents. Of
David.
124
If it had not been the Lord who was on our side—
let Israel now say—
2
if it had not been the Lord who was on our side
when people rose up
against us,
3
then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was
kindled against us;
4
then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have
gone over us;
5
then over us would have gone
the raging waters.
6
Blessed be the Lord,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth!
7
We have escaped like a bird
from the snare of the
fowlers;
the snare is broken,
and we have escaped!
8
Our help
is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
I
have been amazed just in the past week at how people think they can turn God on
and off. When things don’t go exactly
the way we want how easily can we and do we blame God. Some will go as far as to say, I don’t
believe in Him anymore, or I don’t want to have anything to do with Him. It makes me sad and even angry, I can only
imagine how God feels about it. We so
quickly discount Him but He is always there for us. Serving God should not be about getting what
we want or serving when it is convenient for us but rather it should be about a
life commitment to put Him first in our lives no matter the circumstances.
In
the case of the Israelites, He saved them over and over again. Their lives were far from perfect but when
push came to shove, God would allow them to be the victors. When they would become stubborn and turn from
Him, He would split them up allowing them to go into captivity until they would
realize His greatness and would repent and come back to Him. When they allowed God to be in control, life changed
for the better.
Life
will not always give us what we want but God we always give us what we need if
we will only allow Him to be Lord of our lives.
We might suffer, we might be wronged, all of that is because of our
sinful nature, but one thing holds true, God will see us through if we will
allow Him to be our guide and our strength,
Seek
Him in the good times and in the bad times, He is our victor.
Seeking
Him with all my heart,
Sheila
