Dependence On God

Psalm 119:1-8
English Standard Version (ESV)

Aleph
119
[a] Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies,
who seek him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong,
    but walk in his ways!
You have commanded your precepts
    to be kept diligently.
Oh that my ways may be steadfast
    in keeping your statutes!
Then I shall not be put to shame,
having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
I will praise you with an upright heart,
when I learn your righteous rules.[b]
I will keep your statutes;
    do not utterly forsake me!

We are only blameless through the blood of Jesus Christ, yet we can all strive to walk in His ways.  There is not one of us who can say we are sinless, except Jesus Christ.  Yet because of Him we can be blameless in the sight of God.  It is so much easier to live a life pleasing to God when
we know what pleases Him.  We know what pleases Him when we read His word.  God’s Word has be preserved over the years so that we may know our God and know His ways.

I have heard some people say that don’t want to be a Christian because they don’t want to give up the things that please them.  They think that being a Christian must be boring and some even believe it inhabits our own independence.  They are right to an extent because we are dependent upon God.  I would much rather be dependent on Him than to be dependent upon my own self.  Yet, when we know the commands of God and we seek Him with our whole heart, we find that we want to please Him.  It is not a chore or a burden, it is pure joy to serve the Lord.

Where are you today?  Are you still trying to do it on your own or are you seeking Him with your whole heart?  Are you serving Him with gladness?

Seeking Him with all my heart,

Sheila
