Psalm 118:14-24
English Standard Version (ESV)
14
The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
he has become my salvation.
15
Glad songs of salvation
are in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
are in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
16
the right hand of the Lord exalts,
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!”
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!”
17
I shall not die, but I shall live,
and recount the deeds of the Lord.
and recount the deeds of the Lord.
18
The Lord has disciplined me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
but he has not given me over to death.
19
Open to me the gates of righteousness,
that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the Lord.
that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the Lord.
20
This is the gate of the Lord;
the righteous shall enter through it.
the righteous shall enter through it.
21
I thank you that you have answered me
and have become my salvation.
and have become my salvation.
22
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.[a]
has become the cornerstone.[a]
23
This is the Lord's doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
When we are weak and we a tired, where do we get our strength from? David found His strength in the Lord and so should we. However, many times we try to fix it on our own rather than call upon Him to strengthen us.
When we are lost, where do we find our salvation? Many try to do good deeds to earn salvation but this scripture passage tells us that our salvation does not come from doing good deeds. We simply need to walk through the gates of righteousness to become righteous. So often we say that we invite Jesus into our heart but in this passage it is us that needs to make the move. We can only walk through that gate if we are righteous and we can only be righteous through the blood of Christ which is the stone the builders rejected. Only through the repentance of our sins can we enter through the gates of righteousness. There is only One that can help us, gives us strength, and make us righteous. That is why it is said that you can’t get to heaven by being a good person. You will be a lot easier to live with if you are but if you want eternal life, draw your strength from the Lord, realize that you are a sinner and not perfect and accept His gift.
When we stop and really look at what the Lord has done for us we can’t help but marvel. When we marvel at His great works we realize there is nothing on this earth that we could do that would be better than what Christ did for us. When we realize that it is through Him that we get our strength, our salvation and we know that we are blameless and righteous through His blood, it is then that we realize His greatness. It is then that we stop and give Him thanks. It is then, that we can truly recognize that today is another marvelous work of God. Today is the day that we should rejoice and be glad because God has given us the gift of another day and He will give us the strength to make it through. Seek Him and know that He is our gate to righteousness.
Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
