Psalm 115
English Standard Version (ESV)
115 (A)Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
(B)for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
(B)for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
2 Why
should the nations say,
(C)“Where is their God?”
3 (D)Our God is in the heavens;
(E)he does all that he pleases.
(C)“Where is their God?”
3 (D)Our God is in the heavens;
(E)he does all that he pleases.
4 (F)Their idols are silver and gold,
(G)the work of human hands.
5 They have mouths, (H)but do not speak;
eyes, but do not see.
6 They have ears, but do not hear;
noses, but do not smell.
7 They have hands, but do not feel;
feet, but do not walk;
and they do not make a sound in their throat.
8 (I)Those who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them.
(G)the work of human hands.
5 They have mouths, (H)but do not speak;
eyes, but do not see.
6 They have ears, but do not hear;
noses, but do not smell.
7 They have hands, but do not feel;
feet, but do not walk;
and they do not make a sound in their throat.
8 (I)Those who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them.
9 O (J)Israel,[a] (K)trust in the Lord!
He is their (L)help and their shield.
10 O (M)house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and (N)their shield.
11 You (O)who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.
He is their (L)help and their shield.
10 O (M)house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and (N)their shield.
11 You (O)who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord has remembered us; he will
bless us;
he will bless (P)the house of Israel;
he will bless (Q)the house of Aaron;
13 he will (R)bless those who fear the Lord,
(S)both the small and the great.
he will bless (P)the house of Israel;
he will bless (Q)the house of Aaron;
13 he will (R)bless those who fear the Lord,
(S)both the small and the great.
14 May
the Lord (T)give you increase,
you and your children!
15 May (U)you be blessed by the Lord,
(V)who made heaven and earth!
you and your children!
15 May (U)you be blessed by the Lord,
(V)who made heaven and earth!
16 The heavens are the Lord's heavens,
but the earth he has given to the children of man.
17 (W)The dead do not praise the Lord,
nor do any who go down into (X)silence.
18 But (Y)we will bless the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.
(Z)Praise the Lord!
but the earth he has given to the children of man.
17 (W)The dead do not praise the Lord,
nor do any who go down into (X)silence.
18 But (Y)we will bless the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.
(Z)Praise the Lord!
People
say all the time how this world is getting worse and worse. That it is not like it used to be. Yet as I read this scripture it is exactly the
way it used to be. How many times have
we heard the words in this Psalm when times are tough? That age old question, “Where is God now?” When school shootings take place, when earth
shattering catastrophes happen, when terrorist strike, a child dies, and the list
goes on. If the world isn’t perfect,
people want to know where our God is.
That is how it was in the days of old and that is how it is today and
the answer remains the same, HE IS WITH US ALL THE WAY!
God has
allowed man to choose who they serve. Some
choose to serve idols, man-made figures that can’t see, talk, walk, or
breathe. They bow down to these thinking
that somehow that statue or the god it represents will take care of them. This is useless worship and a waste of their
time. In chapter 114, God’s creation has
the ability see and move. In Luke 19:40, Jesus tells us that even the rocks
will cry out if others are silent. Yet
when we look at man-made idols, they cannot speak, see, hear, feel, walk, or
even clear their throats. They are
nothing because God did not create them.
God did create the ones that made them but they have no trust in Him and
because of that, they become just like the idols that they make, useless.
How many
reading this blog put more trust in money earned or in so-called influential
people. Who are you serving? Is God the One that you wake up and want to
please each day? Do other people and
their actions make more of an impact on you than the words found in your
Bible? Do you find yourself putting
things in front of God? As you seek Him
know that it is through Him that we exist.
It is our duty to bring glory, praise and honor to His name. If the LORD were to come into your activities
today would He be pleased with what you are doing? Would you feel blessed or embarrassed? Well, He is there, whether you see Him or
not, He sees you. Trust Him and know
that He is God.
Seeking
Him with all my heart,
Sheila
