Psalm 119:17-24
English Standard Version (ESV)
Gimel
17
Deal bountifully with your servant,
that I may live and keep your word.
that I may live and keep your word.
18
Open my eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.
wondrous things out of your law.
19
I am a sojourner on the earth;
hide not your commandments from me!
hide not your commandments from me!
20
My soul is consumed with longing
for your rules[a] at all times.
for your rules[a] at all times.
21
You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
who wander from your commandments.
who wander from your commandments.
22
Take away from me scorn and contempt,
for I have kept your testimonies.
for I have kept your testimonies.
23
Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24
Your testimonies are my delight;
they are my counselors.
they are my counselors.
We all make mistakes and do things that are not pleasing to God. We have moments when our emotions get the best of us. We might not treat someone the way that we should have treated them, said things we should not have said or even thought things that we should not think. However, if we are Christians this should not happen very often. You may say, “But we are forgiven” and yes, we are. However, as Christians we should be meditating on His word to the point that we are living that Word. If our bodies are truly the temple of God, His Spirit dwells within us and we should be living holy lives, acceptable and pleasing to Him, Romans 12:1. It bothers me greatly when I hear complaints about the behaviors of those who call themselves Christians. Our actions, each and everyday, should reflect the love of Christ. We should be treating others in such a manner that they see Christ in us. However, I hear more complaints about the actions of Christians than I hear about those who do not have a relationship with Christ. Here in lies my concern and why I believe this scripture is so vitally important for us today..
As we seek God and meditate on His Word our lives should be transformed in such a way that we think more highly of others than we do ourselves. I don’t see this happening. I find that more and more people complain about how the Christian treated them, or the hypocrites of those in the church. The church comes back and says, “Well we are not perfect”. Yet on the other hand, we think that we deserve to be in Heaven with the Father, we think that we deserve His grace and forgiveness. Why do we deserve it? Have we kept His only two commandments, “Love Him” and “Love each other”? How do we act on Sunday morning at church and then how do we act on Monday morning at work? If they are different then maybe we need to examine where we are in our Christian faith. There should be no more excuses for the behavior that is so rampant in this world. Christians I urge you to seek Him and meditate on what He has called us to do, Love HIM, and Love Each Other. As you head off to your interactions with others today remember those two things and then act upon them to show others what it truly means to be a Christian. Let His light shine through you today and everyday.
Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheial
