Strength

Psalm 118:25-29
English Standard Version (ESV)

25
Save us, we pray, O Lord!
    O Lord, we pray, give us success!
26
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
    We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27
The Lord is God,
    and he has made his light to shine upon us.
Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,
    up to the horns of the altar!
28
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
    you are my God; I will extol you.
29
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    for his steadfast love endures forever!

So often we are told that we can make our own choices.  We can choose to have a good day or not.  We can choose to be happy and content in all situations.  We are told it is all up to us.  Sometimes I have a difficult time with that concept and these verses help me to see why I do.  Our strength does not come from our inner being unless our inner being has the Lord there.  We can choose to serve Him or not.

We can choose whether we will walk in His path or make our sacrifices to other gods.  We can’t always choose the circumstance that we find ourselves in but we can choose whom we will serve and where we will draw our strength from.  We can serve useless idols and make irrelevant sacrifices or we can choose the Lord.  The Lord who gives us strength in times of trouble, who is our steadfast love when others reject us. We can choose the path of The Lord who can save us and make our ways successful for His glory.

There is one thing that I know, when others get sick of hearing about my sadness and disappointments, The Lord is always there listening and putting His arms around me and letting me know it will turn out for the good.  He is The One and Only who knows my deepest anguish and despair and He alone knows how to carry me through.

Seek Him and know that your strength comes from nowhere else but from the Lord.

Seeking Him with all my heart,
Sheila
